Library Director Message (November 25, 2025)

Dear Placentia Library District Patrons,

As we welcome this season of gratitude, I want to take a moment to share my heartfelt thanks with you, our incredible Placentia community. Thanksgiving invites us to slow down, reflect, and appreciate the people and places that bring meaning and connection to our lives. For me, and for our entire team, serving this community through the Placentia Library District is one of those great honors.

Every day, we see the many ways you bring the library to life, families sharing stories under our roof, students finding quiet space to learn, neighbors gathering for programs and lifelong learning, and patrons of all ages exploring new ideas with curiosity and enthusiasm.

We witness every day the difference our district makes. One mother, recently unemployed, checked out a hotspot and laptop because her family couldn’t afford internet service, leaving her children without reliable access for school. Using our resources, she was able to find a job, and her children are now succeeding in their studies.

Because of stories like hers, we remain driven to meet our community’s evolving needs in new and innovative ways. This year our team continues provide needs that goes beyond our walls. Our OLE (Outdoor Library Experience) space is taking shape into what we hope will become a cherished community destination: a beautiful place to read, relax, attend programs, and enjoy the outdoors together. The space will be available to our community starting December 1st.

We are also eagerly preparing to launch our new bookmobile with a ribbon cutting on January 24, 2026. This project was funded by the California State Library and allows us to bring the library into neighborhoods, schools, parks, community events, and places where access matters most. Soon, you will see this bright and welcoming vehicle traveling throughout Placentia, delivering books, resources, technology, and opportunities to inspire and spark imagination across our city.

As we look back over the past year and forward to what’s ahead, I am filled with gratitude. Gratitude for the trust you place in us. Gratitude for the countless moments of kindness we witness in our building every day. Gratitude for your enthusiasm as we grow our services. And above all, gratitude for being part of a community as warm, caring, diverse, and vibrant as Placentia.

This Thanksgiving, I hope your holiday is filled with warmth, good food, and the comfort of being with the people you cherish. May these days bring you the chance to rest, reconnect, and enjoy the simple joys, including cozying up with a few of your favorite books.

A blessed and beautiful Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones!

With heartfelt gratitude,

Jeanette Contreras
