Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Graphic Novel Book Club
Second Thursday of Each Month

Community Meeting Room
Discover a classic graphic novel or a trending fantasy, dystopian or science fiction epic with our evening book club. Explore intricate sub-genres, like cozy fantasy or magical realism, which invite readers to bundle up with a cup of tea, or hard sci-fi, featuring trips to faraway planets suitable for a summer blockbuster. Find these titles at the library or on our digital platforms on the Libby, Hoopla or Palace apps. Ages 18+.

October 9: Dystopian: 1984 by George Orwell
November 13: Fantasy: The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune
December 11: BYOB – Share what you’re reading or bring your fav sci-fi, fantasy or graphic novel to discuss, as we also preview upcoming 2026 releases with tea and snacks. Looking to get into graphic novels? Get started with Ultimates Vol. 1: Fix the World (Marvel Comics), Wonder Woman Vol. 1: Outlaw, (DC Comics) or Brownstone by Samuel Teer and Mar Julia!

Outdoor Garden Painting

Saturday, September 13
1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Join artist Flór Campos for an afternoon of nature painting in the library’s new outdoor butterfly garden space. This acrylic painting tutorial will demonstrate how to paint butterflies and flowers. Supplies will be provided, and participants can take home their canvas at the end of the afternoon.
Entry tickets will be issued starting at 12:30 p.m. for Placentia Library Friends Foundation (PLFF) members, and 12:45 p.m. for library patrons. No registration needed, space is limited. First come, first served. Check website for updates. Ages 14+.
Garden Game Night

Outdoor Learning Experience Space
Celebrate nature and sustainability in the library's new outdoor space with a selection of themed board and video games for adults. Become a bird-watching naturalist with the strategy board game Wingspan, experience a breath-taking (but dying) world with the Nintendo Switch game Neva, or learn about conservation of resources with the classic game Catan, and more. Ages 18+, no registration needed.
Dia Paint Night

6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Community Meeting Room
Join artist Flór Campos for a Día de los Muertos Paint Night. This acrylic painting tutorial will demonstrate how to paint a candle and an ofrenda, or altar, a commemorative display made to celebrate departed loved ones on Día de los Muertos. Supplies will be provided, and participants can take home their canvas at the end of the evening.
